Minnesota Get-Out-The-Vote Maps

FairVote2020 has developed an interactive map showing turnout in Minnesota during the 2004 and 2000 presidential elections.

Additional maps include census data on race, ethnicity and income.  Change maps by clicking the drop-down menu under "Compare Maps" on the left.

For the political maps, state legislative district boundaries can be displayed by checking the appropriate box below the map image.

At the end of this page is a link to Adobe maps showing nonvoters and turnout rates by precinct for Minnesota cities with  populations greater than 15,000. There is also a link to a second set of maps for the same places displaying Bush-Kerry and Bush-Gore by precinct. Use these in tandem to help target your canvassing efforts.

Map 1  (default map) -- Percent Turnout in Minnesota (2004 election)

At a scale of about 5 miles, the number of voting age persons (by precinct) who did not vote  in the 2004 election is displayed in purple boxes. This number includes both registered and unregistered persons and has not been adjusted for non-citizens. Precinct boundaries are those in effect in 2002. Pie charts display in areas with significant minority population, showing race/ethnicity components for the over 18 population.

Note: Turnout is calculated using population 18 and over in 2000 and votes cast for President in 2004

Due to population growth since 2000 or precinct boundary changes since 2002, about 6% of the 4,000 + precincts statewide show turnout rates above 100%. On the map, these precincts are blank (no color).  They are mainly located in the suburban Twin Cities area and represent about 8.6% of all votes cast  in 2004.

Map 2 -- Percent Turnout in Minnesota (2000  election by 2002 precinct)

This number includes both registered and unregistered persons and has not been adjusted for non-citizens. Precinct boundaries are those in effect in 2002. Vote totals are estimates based on a block-level disaggregation from the 2000 precinct lines. Pie charts display in areas with significant minority population, showing race/ethnicity components for the over 18 population.

Note: Turnout is calculated using population 18 and over in 2000 and votes cast for President in 2000.
